Abstract

This comprehensive review examines the multifaceted role of Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) in cellular metabolism and energy regulation, with a particular focus on its involvement in lipid metabolism and glucose regulation. Additionally, SIRT1's impact on several pathologies, including osteoarthritis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, is explored. Notably, this review sheds light on the unique contribution of SIRT1 in the development and progression of atherosclerosis, a key precursor to cardiovascular disease. By analyzing SIRT1's function in both physiological and pathological contexts, including its associations with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, this study aims to provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between SIRT1 and atherosclerosis. Ethical considerations, where relevant, are carefully considered throughout this review. Overall, this review summarizes SIRT1's novel aspects and highlights its significance in relevant pathological conditions, thereby contributing to the field's knowledge and providing a foundation for future research.
